Security incident on recordMay 2024 — unsuccessful data-extortion claim by IntelBroker; no customer data confirmed taken

Editorial verdict

Zscaler DLP provides inline cloud data loss prevention across all internet-bound traffic via the Zero Trust Exchange, with 150 plus global PoPs ensuring consistent inspection performance without backhauling. For organisations already deploying Zscaler SSE or SASE, DLP is a natural extension of existing infrastructure that adds zero additional agents or appliances.

The limitation is scope. Zscaler DLP protects data in motion across the internet. Data at rest in on-premises storage, USB and print endpoint controls, and structured data matching for legacy databases are absent. Zscaler DLP is a cloud egress protection tool, not a comprehensive enterprise DLP replacement.

The verdict: Zscaler DLP is right for organisations deploying Zscaler SSE or SASE wanting unified inline DLP across all internet-bound traffic. Organisations needing comprehensive endpoint or on-premises DLP should evaluate Forcepoint or Microsoft Purview alongside Zscaler.

Strengths & limitations

Strengths

Inline cloud DLP with 150+ global PoPs — no performance impact
Single policy engine covering web, cloud, and email in ZIA platform
Best for organisations replacing MPLS and VPN with SASE

Watch out for

DLP is a module within SASE — not a standalone DLP product
Limited endpoint DLP for data at rest
Latency complaints in some geographies

Best for

Organisations deploying Zscaler SSE/SASE wanting unified inline DLP across all internet-bound traffic.

Not suitable for: Organisations needing standalone DLP without SASE — Zscaler DLP requires the full ZIA platform.
