Editorial verdict

DTEX Systems has built the most intelligent DLP in the category by approaching the problem differently: instead of inspecting content for sensitive data patterns, DTEX analyses user behaviour to understand intent. The risk-adaptive DLP that evaluates the full context of a data interaction, documented in Gartner's 2025 DLP Market Guide as a leader in intent detection, results in the lowest false positive rate of any DLP vendor. In-Q-Tel backing reflects US intelligence community confidence in the approach.

The trade-off is breadth. DTEX is a behaviour intelligence platform with DLP capabilities, not a traditional multi-channel DLP platform. Traditional channel coverage for email, USB, and network data flows is less comprehensive than Forcepoint. Organisations primarily wanting content-based DLP should evaluate elsewhere.

The verdict: DTEX Systems is right for security-mature enterprises prioritising insider threat detection and intent-based DLP over traditional content inspection. Organisations wanting traditional rule-based content DLP should evaluate Forcepoint or Microsoft Purview.

Strengths & limitations

Strengths

Lowest false positive rate in category — behaviour-based detection
Named in Gartner 2025 DLP Market Guide for intent detection

Watch out for

Smaller vendor — less global support footprint than Symantec or Microsoft
Limited channel coverage versus traditional DLP platforms
Premium pricing not always justified for non-insider-threat-focused buyers

Best for

Security-mature enterprises prioritising insider threat detection and intent-based DLP over traditional content inspection.

Not suitable for: Organisations wanting traditional content-based DLP or broad channel coverage without insider threat focus.
