Editorial verdict

Acronis Cyber Protect has built a unique product category: backup and endpoint protection integrated in one agent. The Active Protection technology that detects and blocks ransomware at the endpoint level during backup operations, combined with endpoint security features in one agent, reduces the tool count for SMBs managing both backup and endpoint protection separately.

The enterprise workload breadth is less than Veeam, and the endpoint security depth is less than dedicated EDR platforms. Acronis is a pragmatic SMB integration rather than a best-of-breed in either category.

The verdict: Acronis Cyber Protect is right for SMBs wanting backup and basic endpoint protection from one agent and one vendor relationship. Organisations needing enterprise backup breadth should evaluate Veeam, and organisations needing dedicated EDR should evaluate CrowdStrike or SentinelOne.
